Bristol Wedding Venue Guide - Thornbury Castle

Im Often asked by couples yet to set the date if I have a favourite Bristol venue. This is such a hard Question to answer. I could never get it down to just one Bristol wedding venue but I will start a list of some of my favourite.

So lets make a start with Thornbury Castle just north of Bristol. It's a venue with such character that lends itself to wedding photography. The grounds are beautiful 12 months of the year make a magical back drop. This inside is just as dramatic with it's twisting spiral stair cases and it's tudor windows. If you want history then this is the place for you with connection with a number of our Royals. The most famous has to be Henry the VIII and Anne Boleyn who stayed at the castle. Infant you can even stay in the very same bedroom as the royal couple. So if you are looking for a wedding venue in the Bristol area, take a look at Thornbury Castle.

Bristol Wedding Venue Guide - Wick farm

Wick farm is not far from Bristol just south of the Roman city of Bath. The main barn has been tastefully transformed into a wonderful wedding venue. The venue also has some lovey out buildings which are always great to use in my wedding photography. I love venues that give me as a wedding photographer, options and variety in places to take my photographs. Wick farm certainly delivers and is a joy to photograph at.

The Mercure Bristol North the Grange Hotel to give it it's full name is a wedding venue on the edge of north Bristol. A large hotel with lots of character making it a great option for you to hold your wedding at. There is lots of room inside and outside so no matter what time of year you decide to get married in you be sure to have a great time.

Tracey Park dates back to the 16th century and is so much more than just a golf course. A great building for a wedding with lots of lovely stone cottages within a few short yards of the the main venue. Within easy reach of Bristol if you decide to go with this wedding venue I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

Tortworth court is a very well known wedding venue in the Bristol area. It has recently been taken over by the De Vere hotel group a name that goes hand in hand with quality. Since taking over they have spent some money adding some very nice touches to the hotel both inside and around the grounds. There are a number of rooms you can get married including a wonderful orangery that makes a spectacular setting for any wedding. This can be seen in this montage with the photograph in the middle at the bottom.

Yet another great venue for you to consider just a little way north of Bristol is Storehouse Court Hotel. As you can see it's a great venue to have your wedding at. The main hotel finished in cotswold stone is just delightful and a joy to photograph in and around. It also has some lovely areas inside if the weather is not so nice. As you can see in this montage it also has a beautiful stone built gazebo if you fancy getting married outside.

St. Pierre is within sight of the seven bridge. This wonderful venue is part of the Marriott chain ensuring you get the quality you undoubtedly want from your wedding day. The front of the hotel is almost castle in appearance making for a fantastic back drop for some of your wedding photographs. The hotel has a very big room for your reception as well as smaller ones for the the intimate wedding. This is another spectacular wedding venue that I have included despite it being outside of Bristol. It makes my list as mots of the couples I photograph here come from Bristol. St Andries Park is a spectacular wedding venue south of Bristol in Somerset. As you can see from these photographs the venue is made up of a manor house which over the years has had many uses, along with the beautiful orangey . The grounds are equally spectacular giving you the complete package for your wedding venue.

Now this next venue is not in Bristol but next door in Bath. I have included in this Bristol wedding guide as so many couples that I photograph here come from Bristol. So if you have not yet guest it, this is the Roman baths. A truly spectacular wedding venue as you can see from these wedding photographs. As well as the baths they also have both large and small rooms for your reception. So if you want to wow your guests, then this is one to consider.

If you want to get married in the tallest church in Bristol then this is it. St Mary Redcliffe is an amazing church more akin to a Cathedral. Not only is it stunning on the inside it also has lots of open spaces to have your wedding photographs in. Once you have got married you can then head off to one of Bristols top wedding venues many of which you will find in this guide.

If you are having a big wedding and are looking to have your wedding in Bristol then I would recommend looking at Old Down Manor. They can seat 150 for your meal meaning they can cater for most weddings. Don't be put off if you are having a smaller wedding as they also have two smaller rooms with stunning views for you to use. I first went to this venue many years ago before it even held weddings. Wow how it has changed beyond recognition since then. They have spent millions on transforming this wonderful old building into a top wedding venue for Bristol. A great wedding venue in the sun, wind or rain as it's so lovely inside and out with plenty of room inside if the weather is not so kind. Simply stunning wedding venue.

Bristol Wedding Venue Guide - Orchardleigh

Orchardleigh is a very large mansion house a few miles south of Bristol near to Frome. It's a venue that has everything you could possible need for your wedding. They even have their own church within the grounds for you to get married in. It's one of those venues where it's does not matter what the English weather throws at us because it's just as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside. I have spent many a cold winters days photographing weddings at this great venue with the open logs fire to keep me warm. With it being just outside of Bristol it may not be a venue you have considered but it you are looking for a grand venue then I would suggest adding it to your list to look at.

The second wedding venue to show at Priston is the Mill itself. A wonderful wedding venue just south of Bristol thats full of character and charm. The Gardens are a wonderful place to celebrate your wedding and if you are lucky with the weather you can even get married outside. The mill is split over three different levels and is full to the brim with history of this wonderful old Mill. The water wheel can still be seen working on the middle level and along with the stonework and exposed beams make for a great place chat with your guests whilst enjoying your big day. The staff as you would expect from one of Bristols top venues are professional and friendly from the moment you arrive until you are partying hard long into the night on the dance floor.

One of Bristol best known venues is Priston Mill. They have two wedding venues side by side for you to choose from. The first I'm showing you is the Barn, a fantastic wedding venue that I have been working at for many, many years. It has changed a little from when I first started working there with more room being made available inside for you and your guests. As an added bonus it also means there is a lot more room inside if it's cold or the weather is not so nice outside. As a wedding photographer I always look at wedding venues from a photographers view point. Does the venue have nice grounds, what if it rains, is there room inside for photographs, well it's a yes yes for this wonderful barn. The montage I have decided to show you below is from a winter wedding where most of the photographs were taken inside including the large group one. As you can see this worked perfectly, taken from up high to ensure we can see all the wedding guests.

If you are looking to hold you wedding at a barn conversion then Kingscote is one to look at. As well as the barn they also have some wonderful accommodation for you to stay in. Situated just north of Bristol the barn looks out on a stunning views of rolling cotswold countryside. The main barn has lots of wonderful natural light streaming in through some large windows making taking photographs of your wedding nice and easy. So if you like barn conversions and don't mind traveling just a few miles from Bristol then I would highly recommend you take a look at Kingscote Barn.

Leigh Park Hotel is just south of Bristol near to Bradford Upon Avon. A wonderful Grade II listed building the Georgian Country House is now part of the Best Western Hotel chain. The staff are always wonderful when I visit this great venue making sure all the weddings guests are looked after during the day. The hotel has lots of rooms so all of of your friends and family can party long into the night without worrying about how to get home. I love the staircase that you can see in this montage as it makes a wonderful bake drop for a wedding photograph. Yet another wedding venue to put on your list to look at.

One of Bristols best kept secrets is the Mansion house the official residence of the Lord Mayor of Bristol, set in the heart of Clifton. The Mansion House integrates the romance and grandeur of the Victorian era with the luxury, style and service you would expect from one of Bristol's most prestigious addresses. I have photographed a number of weddings at this great venue both wedding and corporate. It's a wonderful venue to hold your wedding at with great rooms inside and immaculate gardens outside side for you and yours guests to enjoy. This may not be a venue you have heard of but it's sure should be one to consider.

On the northern edge of Bristol you will find the Kendleshire golf club. Now a golf club may not be your first thought when looking for a wedding venue but as you can see the kendleshire has some stunning grounds to enjoy your wedding day in. Often after the meal the golf club will provide a large golf buggy and a driver from the pro shop to take us around the grounds. The driver knows all the great spots and he will make sure we stay out of the way of the players still out on the course. The kendleshire golf club is one to check out

Right in the heart of Bristol you will find the Hotel Du Vin . A wedding venue with no gardens or grounds but with so much to offer. The inside is a maze of rooms many of which I can use for my wedding photography. As you can see from this montage there is also a court yard with beautiful lights to use day and night. So if a stylish boutique style hotel is top on your list and you want to marry in the centre of Bristol then the Hotel Du Vin is one to consider.

The Hare and Hounds is another venue a couple miles North of Bristol. It's a venue with some fond memories for me as I have photographed some amazing weddings at this great hotel. If you are looking for a wedding venue that has it all then you should consider the Hare and Hounds. As you can see the hotel is beautiful with great character and grounds to match. The room you get married in is stunning, which is matched by another large room for your reception. As you would expect from a Hotel it has lots of rooms for your wedding guests both in the hotel and in some wonderful cottages within the grounds.

Egypt Mill is just North of Bristol near Stroud. A gorgeous wedding venue full of Character. There is a lovely stream running through the grounds with a pond on one side with is great to use in your photographs. In this wedding the weather had not been great during the day but it does highlight what is possible as the light starts to fade. It's a lovely place for you and your family to celebrate your wedding.

Another great wedding venue just north of Bristol is Eastington Park. It's so good for weddings inside or outside in the sun. The gardens are also a wonderful place to have your wedding photographs taken. As you can see there is even a river running through the grounds. The main house has lots of room for you and your guests with a large room for the reception. I love the spiral staircase that you can see in this montage, a favourite with wedding couples. Certainly a wedding venue to consider if you don't mind travelling a few miles out of Bristol.

Coombe Lodge is without question, one of the busiest wedding venues in the Bristol and South West areas. As you can see it's a great place to grab something a little different on your wedding day. This next wedding venue just south of Bristol has had some serious money spent on it over the recent years. This has transformed it into one of Bristols top wedding venues. Clevedon Hall as the name would suggest, has a wonderful great hall for you to get married in. With it's double height ceiling and wonderful glass roof, it truly is spectacular. I also love the room you have your reception in which is great for wedding photographs. If the weather is nice the grounds match up to the splendour of the inside. The lake at the bottom is always a favourite with couples and makes for a great reflection shot. Clevedon Hall has spent a lot of money on the rooms for you and your guests to stay in and are done to the very highest standards. So if you are from Bristol and are looking for a wedding venue I would highly recommend having a look at Clevedon hall.

Castle Coombe is another great wedding venue if you are willing to travel just a little outside of Bristol. The main house has some truly wonderful grounds to explore for you wedding photographs. There is even an idillic bridge over a river with just had to be use for this wedding. You can get married at the venue or if you wish, there is a church just a short walk away. The band stand you can see in the photographs is another option for your wedding if you are lucky enough with the weather.

Now for the next venue, I'm popping just south of Bristol to cadbury house. Capable of holding large weddings with enough accommodation for all of your wedding guests. As you can see from these photographs I don't stick the couple in front of the hotel to take my wedding photographs. No, we explore the grounds and make use of every angle. The photo top left the couple are actually stood on the road but the lower angle means it's hidden from view. If you think the photo bottom left with the two doves was a fluke, you would be wrong, it all comes down to good planning. A great venue for weddings big and small.

If you want a seal lion in your wedding photographs, well there really is only one place in Bristol to book. You may have been to Bristol zoo many times and yet not know they have a fantastic room to hold your wedding in. As you can see from the image, top middle, the main room upstairs really is a special place. Once married you can make your way out into the grounds for your wedding photographs. Once the large group shots are done, your wedding guests can then explore the beauty of the zoo and all it's animals whilst we capture the romantic photographs of the happy couple.

When the centre of Bristol was reshaped with Cabot Circus, the Registry office had to move. The council decided to conduct their weddings inside their offices at the top of Corn street. Outside is very limited with you exiting the building at the top of corn street in the middle of a busy market. Inside you do have the option to get married in two different rooms. The smaller but more spectacular has to be the Lantern room you can see photographed here. It really is a spectacular room to get married in as you can see. After the wedding and if the weather is good you always have the option to go to Castle park which is only a short walk away.

Berwick Lodge Is another wedding venue in Bristol that you may not know exists unless you have been their for a wedding. It's tucked away from view down a long winding private road. As you round the corner it comes into view in all it's splendour. As you can see it's a wonderful country house set in fantastic grounds. A great place to hold your wedding with some amazing places for me to photograph your wedding both inside and around the grounds. I love the little summer house that you can see in this montage and if the weather is ok, it always makes it into the album.

The castle's origins date back to the 11th century and it has been designated by English Heritage as a grade I listed building. One of Bristols more famous venues is Ashton court. Well know for the balloon festival but it's also a great place to get married. If you have your wedding at the right time of year your are in for a treat. They may not last long but the bluebells are stunning and if they are out, we always make a dash for the woods. You also have the wonderful sunken gardens and the mansion it's self a a backdrop for your wedding photographs.

There are a number of Barn conversions in and around Bristol to hold your wedding. The first one Im showing you is Wick Farm just south of Bristol. As you can see as a wedding venue it offers lots of wonderful photography opportunities. So if a more rustic venue is what you are looking for and a barn conversion is on your short list then why not have a look at Wick farm. Another wonderful wedding venue in the Bristol area to consider is Rookery Manor. With it's stunning gardens, helpful staff and great accommodation you are sure to fall in love with this wedding venue. I have photographed there many times over the years and have always left wanting to go back for some more. The gardens do not have a blade of grass out of place and the large pond as well as the manor house, make for a spectacular backdrop for your wedding photographs. With lots of accommodation onsite you and your guests can party on late into the night.

For my second venue I have chosen one of Bristols most famous land marks, the SS Great Britain . If you are after something a little different for your wedding in Bristol, then this great ship, has to be on your short list. It makes a spectacular back drop you for you to get married in. The staff are wonderful and will make sure you are well looked after on your wedding day. As an added bonus it's in the centre of Bristol within easy reach of local hotels for you and your guests. If you want to arrive in style you can take a boat all the way from the city centre to the dock holding the SS Great Britain. So if you are looking for a wedding venue in Bristol thats a little different then look no further than the SS Great Britain.
